My story is that for many years, I have been privileged to work with some prestigious fashion designers, modelling studios and beauty houses. I have always had to look my best but have always been on a very tight budget. I never had the luxury of splurging on designer pieces but I have always managed to get the same designer looks for half the price or the same fashion effect without the label or the hefty price tag.
Some years ago, I was working on an exclusive fashion show. The parade was an expose of equisite, very expensive designer labels. It was a part of my job on the day to assist the guests of the parade with ordering and selecting their favourite pieces after the show.
During this time, I had a baby and a hefty mortgage so there was not a lot left in the budget for my own wardrobe BUT I still had to look a million dollars to ensure that I represented and reflected the fashion company I was working with's image. I checked out my wardrobe, knowing that I needed to look fantastic on the day of the show, but with little cash, it was going to be a challenge.
The day before the show, I hit a huge shopping centre and managed to find a great pair of chocolate coloured slim line pants on sale for $29.99 marked down from $289. They had a tiny pull on the hip so big reduction in price! I also found a gorgeous black blazer in a store a few shops down. It was tailored, but the fabric was soft and it had a sassy fine belt around the waist. It was divine. It too was marked down to $49. Not a well known label BUT a great look alike of a Trent Nathan Jacket we were running in our parade!
I teamed the Jacket with the pants, through a white Bonds T under the jacket to break it up and wore a great little pair of black boots (a pair of old favourites) with the outfit. It was sleek, simple and stylish and the outfit looked amazing at a cost of $80! I felt great in it too.
On the day of the parade, so many people commented on my gorgeous outfit and most clients assumed that I was wearing designer labels from the range we were previewing! In fact one woman came to us and said she wanted exactly the same outfit that I was wearing! So one of my colleagues sold her a similar outfit to mine but the pieces were exclusive designer pieces and her bill came to over $800 to get the same look that I had paid $80 for.
